Beautiful Potraits

Photography by Kate Branch

So many times the mother will say at a photo shoot "Oh no, I do not want to be in the picture!"Well as a photographer I believe it is so important for the mothers to have a beautiful keepsake of their journey. Motherhood is an amazing and intense time. And we need to celebrate that. I specialise in capturing motherhood, and am most happy when mothers say "It is so nice to have a beautiful picture of me and my baby. I'm so glad I posed. My tips for posing mother and baby- keep the images intimate relaxed, and just photograph the beautiful chemistry between them.

How to pose for headshots

Image: Kate Branch Photography

Need to take a group or individual photo and are unsure of how to pose? Never fear, just read below.

Good poses for head shots involves
1. Sitting up straight
2. Tilting the body at a slight angle
3. Taking a deep breath to relax all of the muscles then opening your eyes.

Actors and musicians especially need these types of head shots. This particular portrait I took was a group portrait for an edgy and innovative Hair Salon.

How to pose a newborn at a portrait sitting

Photograph by Kate Branch

1. Bring your baby's favorite toys or stuffed animals to the portrait studio. It's a new environment for your baby, so having familiar objects will make her more comfortable.

2.Dress the baby for comfort. Often in the quest for that perfect picture, parents try too hard to dress the baby in something that is more attractive than it is comfortable. If a baby is uncomfortable, he will only be agitated more quickly and be less likely to cooperate.

3.Photograph your favorite poses first, for example, sitting up as opposed to lying down. The longer the baby poses, the more tired and less cooperative she becomes.

4.Hold up a favorite stuffed animal or toy to get your baby to smile. If this doesn't work, try doing something that usually makes them smile (i.e. playing with them, tickling or making funny faces) and then back out of the space so that the picture can be taken.

How to pose in a swimsuit

One of the best way to pose in a swimsuit is facing the camera side on. Make sure you jut out your bottom half as far as you can, while pushing your chest forward. Watch where you place your hands. Try to use your hands as a frame for either your face or body. Lastly, when wearing a swim suit you must stand proud. If you stand confidently, you will look and feel confidant. Own that swimsuit like the model below!

Lady GaGa poses naturally

Lady GaGa poses without make up for the cover of Harpers Bizarre. I think the images are beautiful and intriguing. It's almost like the photo's are more shocking than when she posed in a "meat dress," because I am use too seeing her dressed up.

Supermodel Bar Refaeli says she studies all her pictures in a bid to look perfect.

Supermodel Bar Refaeli says she studies all her pictures in a bid to look perfect "I've learned how to do this. I study all of my pictures. Which turn of the hip is sexier, which toe to curl or leg to straighten. I know every bone. " Refaeli told GQ magazine. "I always want to look my best on a shoot, or for a fashion show, so I do an extra couple of sit-ups the night before and I drink hot water with lemon to get my metabolism kick-started in the morning and to cleanse my system, but I don’t do anything crazy.”

How to pose in a swimsuit

Posing in a swimsuit can prove challenging. Here is another trick to assist you in your bikini pose. Aim to push your pelvis forward and to one side. (pushing your pelvis forward allows you stomach to appear flat. It is better than "sucking" in your stomach-which makes your ribs stick out). Now widen your upper torso, and broaden your shoulders. Add a slight lift to the opposite shoulder. For extra va-voom crosss your legs together to achieve an hourglass shape! See some beautiful models below in this pose. Including Gisele.
